As we move forward in the months since the election, we send love to our entire community and beyond. We are inspired and feel a part of all the work to RESIST.
Now more than ever we look to the histories of those who have worked together to teach, learn and build a better world. We are committed to continue documenting theses stories of HOPE, LOVE, JUSTICE and INCLUSION.


This winter and spring two MAESTRA protagonists, Griselda Aguilera and Blanca Monett, have been touring the USA, screening MAESTRA and giving lectures on the Cuban Literacy Campaign.

the youngest Literacy Campaign volunteer, had a very successful visit to the USA from November 2016 to March 2017. She visited UCLA, SUNY Potsdam & Santa Fe, New Mexico screening Maestra and presenting on the campaign.

is currently on the West Coast. She has already spoken at Chabot College, San Francisco State University and Sonoma State University. 

On May 11th she will be at the University of California at Davis.

A New Literacy Project Film

We are excited announce that we’ve launched The Literacy Project’s next film, CRUZADA, about the Nicaraguan Literacy Campaign of 1980. In February, producers Shaya Christensen and Kathy Sevilla conducted the first research interviews in various regions of Nicaragua.

Update on Norma Guillard

Please send your prayers and good thoughts to the brilliant and inspiring Norma Rita Guillard Limonta, a leading social psychologist in Cuba and one of the amazing women featured in MAESTRA. She has been facing serious health issues and is undergoing treatment in Havana. With some positive early results.
