Nicaragua Project
...............................
Young brigadistas delivered the news about the Nicaraguan literacy
campaign in every home in Managua, and throughout Nicaragua, and many
became teachers, or began to formally learn to read and write. The
large meeting at the Plaza de la revolucion in NIcaragua, see attached
image, was a large gathering and dedicated to signing on teachers and
students. This process went on into the early darkness. The revolution
was only months old, having occurred less than 6 months previously.
Tens of thousands attended the mass gathering. At the same
time,Maurice Bishop visited Nicaragua to see how the literacy campaign
was being carried out as he had plans to carry out a literacy campaign
in his nation, Granada.
